Description
Multiple layers of meaning cascade from the top through to the edge of the artwork at the bottom. Memories of love, life and loss are portrayed through images of nests, lace, stitches, recycled pieces of old work and poems. An eleventh century fragment of old Dutch is believed to be an example of the beginning of Dutch and by implication Afrikaans literature. This is done in cross stitch and forms the background for a hand embroidered nest. A further three nests and a rectangular piece are richly decorated with phrases, embroideries, lace and landcapes.
