Title: Illusion

Description: This piece began as a blank calico "canvas" which I painted with a forest scene using watery acrylic paint. By scattering fabrics in specific areas it began to take shape. During the process the forest underwent many changes, in some moments one could see "creatures" appear... During the weeks in the making they hid behind the trees again.

Title: Faith

Description: The challenge was to use a word and a specific fabric which we received upon committing to participate. The word faith just worked so well with the dotty fabric which was a perfect way of depicting the people

Title: Infused

Description: Simply a melody for the soul -created on a quiet day with beautiful fabrics combined with creativity and allowing the magic to happen

Title: Exuberance

Description: During the world cup series in S.A. we had visitors with their 12 year old son, who spent 2 days playing my piano as often as he could get to it. I asked him if I could take photo"s of him as he was dressed in a fancy outfit for the match, and he agreed, although he was very shy about the idea. Following their visit I did a few oil paintings of him, working from my photographs. The paintings were realistic, but when I made the quilt I gave it a "pop" aspect by jazzing up his features.

Title: Ode to Vincent Series: Irises

Description: Vincent van Gogh is my favourite artist. As a member of TAPE (Textile Art Port Elizabeth) we were challenged to use one of Vincent"s paintings to create a quilt. I chose one of his many paintings of Irises. It was important to me not to replicate his painting, but to give it my approach using fabric and thread. I loved making this quilt.

Title: Ode to Vincent Series: Olive Trees

Description: Another of Vincent"s paintings of Olive trees. For this one, I wanted to use piecing as well. I made many little log cabin blocks which I placed in random areas to replicate his colours in a way. My goal was to "see" the scenery if you really looked and compared it to his painting, but by no means a copy. It is purely my interpretation using fabric and wool and thread.

Description: I have painted for many years, and this quilt was a way of doing a "still life" with a twist using scraps of fabric and thread

Description: The theme of the exhibition was "Unsettled" which was based on history where folks were displaced... this is my depiction

Description: How wonderful, the birds know where to go, they are in total agreement with one another and together they follow their natural instints

Title: Photosynthesis

Description: Where would one feel any closer to nature? I imagine the sounds of the forest, birds in the trees, insects scurrying about... Peace!

Title: Neptune

Description: My depiction of the Intertidal theme. Who knows what lies beyond the deep waters? Just imagine a mysterious figure rising from the depth of the ocean, the source of the storm..

Title: Abstraction

Description: Playing with warm tones - powerful colours which evoke strong emotions symbolizing love, passion, vibrancy, anger....Mostly hand stitched with fabric manipulation for texture

Description: This was one of my first works experimenting with thread painting!
